EXCITING NEW BBC AND BRASS COLLABERATION
BBC 2 Has commissioned 3 1 hour shows all about a Yorkshire Brass band.
The Dinnington Colliery Band in South Yorkshire has survived two World Wars, a Recession, the Miners’ Strike and the closure of their pit… and now it needs YOU to keep it alive!
The band means everything to the members but they are few and far between. Joan Herdman, her sister Kay and their family have played in it for over 30 years, barely missing a practice in all that time. They’ve witnessed the band go through phenomenal highs and crushing lows and now they’ve hit a rough patch but they’re on a mission to save the band and blow life back into their community. But how to do it in a landscape of apathy with a myriad of modern day distractions?
Step forward...Sue Perkins.

She’s boldly heading North to join forces with the indomitable Joan, Kay and the band. Together they want to restore the fortunes of Dinnington Colliery Band and take them to unprecedented new highs whilst the BBC follow their journey. They have enlisted the help of Dr Nicholas Childs who will work with band and help them as the navigate their way back to contesting.
